Description
Come join us as we go to two of the most beautiful islands in the Mexican Caribbean! Isla Mujeres and Isla Contoy. Contoy Island is a National Park and a protected natural reserve since 1961 because of it’s importance to shelter nesting maritime birds. Supervised eco-tourism is allowed but closely regulated. Only a few tour companies have permission to bring part of the maximum 200 visitors to Isla Contoy each day. The island is known for it’s spectacular beaches and because of it’s natural reserve status, the only building on the island is a small museum dedicated to the beauty of it’s flora and fauna. Isla Contoy is the perfect place for bird watching as you can easily spot pelicans, storks, sparrows, cormorants, and many other beautiful bird species.
After snorkeling the second largest coral reef barrier in the world, it’s back on the boat and off to the island you go to explore. We will dock at a pier next to a beach where a small tranquil bay is formed which looks like a natural pool with crystal clear waters. The guides will then lead you on a 30-minute walk around the island to see the museum (optional), an internal lagoon where many bird species nest, a set of trails that lead to the other side of the island, and finally a look out tower you can climb where you can appreciate the magnificent views of the entire island below you.
Lunch is next as we all have most likely worked up an appetite! We will prepare Tikin Xic fish, which is a traditional Yucatan recipe, grilled chicken, guacamole, salad, bread, seasonal fruits, and water, sodas and beer for refreshments. Soda and water is always available and beer also after snorkeling. After lunch it’s lounge time on the beach! Lounge, nap, tan, or swim in the beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean for 90 minutes until our next boat ride to Isla Mujeres.
Once at Isla Mujeres we will walk around the streets of the central part of town to shop or just suck up the feel of the small island vibe before we depart back to Cancun for transport back to your hotel.
